Okay, so you are done with the initial step of getting online and post your picture and profile. Now you find somebody who shows a considerable amount of interest and you also like the person. What’s the next step?
Get to know that person via email like you would normally. The first time you talk, let the person know you on a personal level, but don’t get overly intimate too fast. This tends to scare people off. Write casual and conversational email that give basic information about you. Don’t forget to ask questions. Talking too much about you can be a turnoff to many people. Ask open-ended questions that are fun and easy to talk about such as “What are your hobbies, favorite foods, or movies, etc.”
As you begin to know the person, you should feel more comfortable and set the mood for the conversation. Flirt a little and be creative. After all, it is quite obvious that both of you are trying to see if you are compatible as a dating couple. But don’t write anything inappropriate. Use your judgment and remember that your email can end up somewhere you may not expect.
If you really feel the vibes with the person, be consistent in your communications. Contact each other regularly. Of course, you decide what ‘regular’ means? Also get creative in ways you keep in contact. You can meet in a chat room, text messaging, or talking on the phone. At this point, if you find out that you really like the person, let him or her know about it.
